Gattaca PLC gets its gardening gloves on for Age UK

Members of our London-based recruitment team, operating under our Networkers brand, joined forces to help transform the Age UK Bromley & Greenwich Garden Rooms in Chislehurst earlier this week.

Led by Recruitment Consultant, Craig Hulls, 14 colleagues rolled up their sleeves to rejuvenate a run-down garden at the Chislehurst community centre.

Craig said: “Our aim is to host four community-focused events in the 2018/19 financial year, and giving back to the elderly was our first choice. I was put in charge of organising a volunteering event and started to make some calls to find out who we could help. Age UK came straight back to me and assured us that our work would help bring joy to the people who use their facilities."

Gattaca PLC and its sub-brands, Networkers Technology and Matchtech, raised £320 to help Craig and his team purchase the all-important resources needed to complete the project. Plus, thanks to a generous 20% discount from Coolings Garden Centre in Knockholt, Kent, Craig was able to make those funds go the extra mile.

Craig continued: “The day itself went really well. Thanks to the money raised through Gattaca and the generosity of Coolings Garden Centre, we managed to complete everything we set out to do. The team got straight to work as soon as we arrived at the centre; sprucing up the flowerbeds and sanding down four benches, which had previously been donated by members of the public but were starting to look a bit worse for wear. We’ve given them a lick of weather-resistant paint and hope they will last many more years and be used by many more generations.

“Age UK says members of the public are already commenting on how fresh the garden looks and that our work will help to improve the elderly people’s experience at the centre. I have really enjoyed putting this event together and I’m so pleased we could give something back to the community.”

Craig added: “I would like to thank everyone who got involved in the project for all their hard work, and everyone who donated towards our cause for their generous donations. We couldn’t have done this without the elbow grease or the spare pennies and we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved.”
